Match Report - 07 Mar 2010, Maclay Football Club White drew with Nascot Wood
Following the last performance against Chorleywood the team played this double header full of optimism and enthusiasm.
Game one 2-2
A bright start in the first game. Dom Prince scoring a well taken goal past the Nascot keeper. Their keeper would alternate between hero and villain throughout the match. Maclay continued to apply the pressure in the first half. Carl Bonney looked very comfortable in goal and there was little pressure placed upon him. Henry Bexson and Matt Hopkins battled well in midfield. Josh Roberts volleyed over the cross bar from outside the box and other strikes from Henry and Ben Rochford saw the Nascot keeper make some fine saves. Josh Roberts then missed a penalty, but in reality it was well saved by the keeper as he dived full length to his left.
Following three substitutions at half time Maclay started well with a second goal struck by Henry. The game however turned on a fine goal from Nascot chipping Josh Roberts who was now in goal. In the last few seconds of the first half Maclay failed to clear a corner and the ball was tapped back four yards past three Maclay players, it dribbled innocuously over the line. Video analysis later showed that someone from Nascot had clearly tied all of our boys bootlaces together as they waited for the corner.
The whistle blew and the final score of 2 – 2 summed up the Maclay White season. We could have and should have won but just couldn’t hold out.
