Match Report - 16 Jan 2011, Maclay Football Club Red beat Hemel Town White
This was a good, old fashioned cup tie that kept the parents entertained and sent many of the players home with tired legs and numerous bruises.
Hemel Town started very strongly and opened the scoring with a fine headed goal. Maclay gradually came back into the game and Edward Butler-Caddle was unlucky not to score with a strong header that narrowly went wide. Jack Wiggs equalised five minutes before half time after a good run from the left. Maclay continued to improve after the break and James Manners put them ahead. Good chances were missed by Prunty and Niven and predictably enough Hemel Town took advantage of this as they built up momentum and Josh Hart equalised five minutes from the end. Maclay had to work very hard to stop Hemel getting a late winner as extra time beckoned. Maclay started extra time really well and were rewarded when Man of the Match, Chris Heath thundered home a header from a corner to make the score 3-2. Maclay continued to attack at every opportunity and were rewarded with two late goals - one from a Jack Wiggs penalty and the other from James Manners.
