Match Report - 13 Mar 2011, Maclay Football Club Red beat Acorn Raiders
A superb extra time wonder goal from Glaswegian winger Robin Niven secured a WHYL U15 Challenge Cup final place for Maclay Red.
Niven, who joined the club as a 5 year old in 2001 chose exactly the right time to end his recent goal drought. Seizing the ball on the right wing from a Calum Alexander pass, he jinked past three players and hammered the ball into the net from just outside the box. The Maclay team then defended resolutely through to the end of the match.
Maclay had taken the lead after 5 minutes when ADAM COWLAND scored after a corner. Maclay looked comfortable in possession but Acorn worked very hard and at 0-1 were always in the game. This was proved correct when they equalised midway through the second half. The match moved from end to end but strong defensive displays by both teams ensured that no more goals were scored in normal time. Man of the Match, ROBIN NIVEN then scored the goal that ultimately separated the two teams.
