Match Report - 26 Sep 2010, Maclay Football Club White lost to Echoes
Maclay White came down to earth with a bump from last week, with a very good performance by Hemel Echoes.
Five nil at half time and very little had happened for Maclay. We couldn’t quite put our finger on what was going wrong.
The second half was however a different game altogether. The team fought a little harder and challenged for the ball with a little more gusto. We began to compete. Following a long range shot, Joshua Wilton hassled the keeper and as he cleared Josh put his foot out and it rebounded into the net. Solid midfield play saw a more a balanced game. A second goal came when Henry drilled home a shot from outside the box. In a goal mouth scramble a goal came for Echoes as Joey valiantly saved one on the line, instinctively putting his arm out. Echoes scored from the resulting penalty.
Maclay continue to learn and this was certainly a baptism of fire against one of last year's league one teams.
Quoting from my book of footballing clichés the boys need to remember this is a team game and we win as a team and lose as a team. We lost the first half and drew the second half. There are no easy games. Further quotes can be found in my forthcoming book. “Please bring a shovel the pitch is used by dog walkers”
Man of the match following a discussion was Josh Roberts. However I have to say all the boys put in a good effort.
