Match Report - 21 Nov 2010, Maclay Football Club White lost to Hendon United
Another tough match and again one that we did not on balance deserve to lose 3 nil. We started well but Christmas came early for Hendon, a goal kick wrapped in Christmas paper, with a bow on top and a Christmas card sent the previous week informing the striker where and when his present would be delivered saw an early goal for Hendon. Their play was in spells superior to ours, passing the ball in midfield and always looking for the simple ball. In the first half Hendon had few opportunities. The back 4 as they normally do looked effective and Ethan certainly had an excellent game keeping a very sharp looking 17 at bay. Half-time 1 nil to Hendon.
The second half saw some better opportunities on goal with several going close and a couple of excellent saves from the keeper. Perhaps too many subs made it difficult to keep everyone happy and a nasty looking injury to Henry (who hopefully will recover in a couple of weeks) unsettled the team. Hendon scored two fairly weak goals and we went down to a 3 nil defeat. We need a week where we all perform at the top of our ability. Training on Fridays may help. Again 10% away from a match winning or drawing performance. Remember we were beaten 8 - 1 on the last occasion and they certainly did not have it easy this time.
Man of the match went to David BRYAN, his reading of the game gives stability at the back, with Josh Roberts, Ethan and Stan close seconds for their sheer determination.
