Match Report - 03 Apr 2011, Maclay Football Club White beat Chorleywood Lions
Chorleywood 0 Maclay White 2
A long day for the boys, most of them had been up since 6am having done the hoovering, ironing and cooked a full breakfast for their mothers. Luckily Josh got out of bed at 8.55 am just in time to find out what he had bought for Mothering Sunday, the ink to dry on the card, put on a shirt and get to the match on time.
Having a squad of 17 for the match I had again spoken to Professor Brian Cox to see if he could work out the team formation/combinations, following a referral to Professor Stephen Hawkins they gave up and told me to sort it out myself.
Chorleywood always provide a challenging game, in the first five minutes we looked a little shaky and Chorleywood had the best play. Then Josh Roberts began to get a grip of the game and supplied Pat and Henry upfront with ball after ball. Henry took on the defence and he scored a deserved goal with an excellent left foot strike into the bottom corner. Karl, Josh, Matt and Ben worked in midfield supported by a confident back four.
Half time saw a score of 1 – 0 to Maclay. I raced to the bookmakers, it was odds on for Chorley to win 6 - 1.
The second half started with Chorley again putting us under pressure. Karl continued his excellent play linking well with Henry, Pat and Dom. If all of our chances had gone in, we would have won 7 nil, but the goal wasn’t wide enough.
Pat's good footwork then resulted in another excellent goal as he continued his good run, again a well driven ball into the bottom right corner.
Two disallowed goals would have made the result more emphatic. William then saved well from a goal bound strike from Chorleywood, pushing the ball over the bar with one hand, relieving a little of the pressure.
A great team performance, our position in the table contradicts the level and quality of our play. Man of the match went with a three way tie to Pat, Karl and David.
We have one more match in May, I will try and arrange some friendly games.
Can I remind all for the subs, £20 for those who train and £10 for those who don’t. Having been fined £25 and 6 points for failing to field a team last week I don’t want to see another 30 points go if we are put into administration. If anyone knows a friendly oligarch please put him in touch.
