Match Report - 20 Feb 2011, Maclay Football Club Red beat Acorn Raiders
Maclay Red battled really hard to win this match against a very competitive Acorn team on a pitch that was a mudbath by half time. The first 20 minutes of the match were fairly even until Callum Miles converted a penalty to open the scoring for Maclay after 22 minutes. Acorn equalised with a headed goal from a corner 5 minutes later and this sparked them into their best spell of the match. Captain Sam Hauck put Maclay 2-1 in front on the stroke of half time after a goalmouth stramash. Jordan McCormack and Edward Butler-Caddle were superb in the centre of the Maclay midfield in the first half and they were both rewarded with a few minutes rest after the break. The in form James Manners slammed home a goal 4 minutes after half time to put Maclay 3-1 ahead and Maclay seemed well on top until Acorn scored midway through the half. Acorn really worked hard after this and the game moved from end to end. Eventually Jack Wiggs cut in from the left and scored from a tight angle to put Maclay 4-2 up before top scorer James Manners sealed the match with his second goal 5 minutes from the end. After converting a penalty, hitting the cross bar and clearing off the goal line twice, Callum Miles deservedly just pipped Jordan McCormack and Edward Butler-Caddle to Man of the Match. Every Maclay player gave 100% today in awful conditions - well done boys!
