Match Report - 13 Nov 2011, Maclay Football Club Red beat Aylesbury Athletic Youth
Maclay Red battled hard to gain the three points that took them back to the top of the league. Athletic started very strongly and hit Maclay with wave after wave if attacks in the opening fifteen minutes. Maclay's mettle was well and truly tested when Callum Miles and Jordan McCormack both went off injured in the opening fifteen minutes, luckily substitutes Edward Butler-Caddle and James Manners both made a major impact on the match. JAMES MANNERS opened the scoring midway through the half and this was followed by a long spell of Maclay dominance without any more goals resulting. Aylesbury Athletic equalised just after the break from a superb long range shot. Maclay responded well and were rewarded when ROBERT PRUNTY put them ahead after 58 minutes. Robin Niven was brought down for a penalty a few minutes later and JAKE DE SOUZA confidently put Maclay 3-1 ahead from the spot. Athletic battled back hard but the Maclay midfield and defence were resolute until Athletic pulled another goal back with a good header from a corner 6 minutes from the end. The game moved from end to end in the last few minutes but Maclay were able to hold on to their narrow lead for a fine away win. Maclay keeper, JAMES LAGDON won Man of the Match for his impressive and confident display in goal.
