Match Report
Match Report - 21 Oct 2012, Maclay Football Club White lost to Gerrards Cross & Fulmer
A valiant 10 man team battled for 90 minutes and in all truth deserved more reward. George performed some great saves as the team began to tire. Ethan continues to establish his position a right back with another solid performance. David and Stan played their usual solid game and Joe worked hard pushing up and down the wing. Midfield was tough for Josh, Karl, Ben and Matt but they never gave up. Pat hustled but was often left a little isolated as we anticipated.
Gerrard Cross took a two goal lead as they applied the pressure in the first half. Sustained pressure on Gerrards Cross saw the keeper make an error and Matt followed up with his second goal in two weeks. Ben who again took a defence apart and assisted by Matt put in a superb cross. Pat rose and headed the ball in. We were disappointed to see the linesman call the ball out when it was clear to all he was 10 yards out of position and the ball was entirely inside the line. I think a 2 – 2 half time score would have been a fair reflection. We then lost our way for 5 minutes and it was 4 – 1 at half time.
The second half was all Maclay. Gerrards Cross had a few good chances but this was due to the man advantage taking its toll and we pressured up front. Ben then took on the defence and curled a ball in from the edge of the box. Great goal and we knew we were still in it. Another disallowed goal for offside as the ball deflected off a blue player into Matt’s path followed by the odd other decision failing to go our way. It was not meant to be our day, but they battled to a man.
Ben, Stan and George were the players who stood out today. Well done all. No man of the match today due to the effort put in by all.
