Match Report - 03 Feb 2013, Maclay Football Club Red drew with Chalfont Saints Colts
This was a great win for Maclay against a team that was primarily a year older and formed from the successful Dr Challoners 6th form team. Both team started well and MATT ASHBY opened the scoring after 15 minutes with an easy tap in. Maclay played well from then on although Saints always looked very dangerous from corners and free kicks. A sloppy five minutes led to Saints equaliser in the 43rd minute.
MATT ASHBY added a second in the 54th minute to put Maclay 2-1 ahead. Maclay played really well for the next fifteen minutes although Saints were always impressive on the break. Saints equalised in the 70th minute and to be honest it was against the run of play. Both teams pushed for the winner and the Saints keeper made a very good save in the dying minutes to prevent an Ashby hat trick.
Chalfont started extra time with real vigour and were rewarded when they took the lead in the 96th minute from a badly defended corner. Maclay rallied and were rewarded when ROBERT PRUNTY equalised in the 113th minute after Adam Cowland was unlucky to see his well struck shot parried to the edge of the box.
Neither team could get the winner so penalties had to happen. Top scorer Matt Ashby failed to hit the target with his but two good saves from Man of the Match JAMES LAGDON provided the platform for Adam Cowland, Calum Alexander, Robin Niven and Jack Wiggs to win the shoot out and take the team through to the quarter final of this prestigious competition.
Chalfont Saints Colts 3 - 3 Maclay Football Club Red (Maclay won 4-3 on penalties aet. 2-2 after 90 mins)
