Match Report - 21 Sep 2014, Maclay Football Club 2015 beat Tring Anchor
This was a fine away win over the league leaders and earned Maclay their first league points of the season.
Maclay narrowly avoided disaster in the opening five minutes when a slip by goalkeeper Parker enabled Anchor to get the ball. Luckily Anchor hit the outside of the post and the ball cannoned away for a goal kick.
ROB PRUNTY opened the scoring when he beat the keeper to the ball and neatly put it in the net. This was the only goal separating the teams at half time. Maclay had dominated most of the possession but Anchor looked dangerous on the break and the impressive Maclay defence needed to stay vigilant.
MATT PEARSON gave Maclay some breathing space when he scored a fine goal in the 48th minute. His first effort was well saved by the keeper but he followed up and slammed the ball home.
Maclay started to play with more feedom after second goal and this was rewarded by two fine goals by Man of The Match YUSEF SEODI. There were also good efforts on goal from Peter Bryan, Pat Hanlon and Jason Burt. Burt was playing for Maclay for the first time in 14 years and his hard working and very effective performance in central midfield certainly impressed the young players around him.
This win got Maclay back on track in their league campaign but was marred somewhat by Rob Prunty's dislocated shoulder which means he will be out of action for a number of weeks. On the positive side, Ben O'Connor returned to competitive football after his dislocated knee - his ten minute cameo passed without incident so hopefully he will be playing regularly again in the next few weeks.
