Maclay 5 (2) v SFG Stone 2 (1)

Despite poor conditions, Maclay ground out a good win against one of the strongest teams in the league.
Stone made it clear from the start that they meant business when their sixteen-man squad turned up more than an hour before the match.
After early pressure from Stone Maclay responded well when DAN RENNISON pounced on Ian Ranger’s shot to give his team a one nil lead in the 8th minute. Play moved from end to end after that with Maclay creating some good chances before joint top scorer DEAN GAVIN scored from the edge of the box after a good run. Stone’s first half efforts were rewarded a minute before the break when they scored a good diving header after a left wing cross.
The second half was hard fought until Maclay captain BEVAN GOSLING popped up to score for the fourth game in a row in the 63rd minute after Conor O’Connor’s header was well saved. This should have given Maclay the cushion they needed but Stone responded with another headed goal two minutes later.
Maclay stepped up another gear after that. Dan Rennison and Joe Rochford both had chances to score before Corey Rivers’ superb pass enabled JOE ROCHFORD to run through, round the keeper and put Maclay 4-2 ahead in the 78th minute. The game was sealed when JOSHUA ROBERTS hammered the ball home from outside the box in stoppage time.
IAN RANGER won Man of the Match for another superb display up front where his deft touch and range of passes created a number of chances. Dan Rennison also impressed everyone watching with his fine performance on the left wing while keeper Chris Young made some fine saves.
