Match Report - 04 Jan 2015, Maclay Football Club 2015 beat SFG Stone
Sunday 4th January 2015
CSL Allan Moore Cup Group B Maclay 6 (4) v SFG Stone 1 (1)
Scorers: M Ashby (1, 10 & 56 min), I Ranger 35 min), M Pearson (43 min) & R Prunty (57 min)
Maclay started 2015 with real style as MATT ASHBY latched onto Calum Alexander’s pass to score and give Maclay the lead in the 1st minute. Maclay were passing the ball really well and poured forward after that. Top scorer, MATT ASHBY added a second in the 10th minute. Maclay started the match so well that Stone went down to ten men in the 14th minute when the referee decided a heavy challenge on Ashby merited a red card.
Stone started to come back into the match after that and were rewarded with a goal in the 28th minute as their quick throw in caught the Maclay defence napping. This prompted a quick response from Maclay as IAN RANGER added a fourth goal in the 35th minute when his superb through ball to Calum Alexander ran on and went past the keeper as he focussed more on the player than the ball. MATT PEARSON scored from the edge of the box in the 43rd minute when Maclay’s corner was cleared to him and he quickly responded with a snap shot.
Maclay killed the game off with two goals in two minutes in the 56th and 57th minute as first MATT ASHBY and then ROB PRUNTY punished the Stone defence. Both goals were very well taken and Prunty skillfully passed several Stone defenders and then their keeper to end the day’s scoring with some aplomb. Maclay came close to adding more goals as Seodi, Hijjawi and Rochford were all denied by woodwork, keeper or linesman's flag. The score remained at 6-1 through to the end of the match.
MATT ASHBY won Man of the Match for taking this game by the scruff of the neck and making sure that Maclay were in a powerful, winning position after only ten minutes.
