Match Report - 11 Jan 2015, Maclay Football Club 2015 lost to Dinamo Chequers
REALITY CHECK
Sunday 11th January 2015
CSL Allan Moore Cup Group B
Dinamo Chequers 2 (0) v Maclay 1 (1)
Scorer: B Gosling (4 min)
Maclay were brought back down to earth with a bump in this match as a first half lead was squandered and two key players, Chris Young and Conor O’Connor, suffered injuries that may keep them out of the team for a while.
Everything started so well as Man of the Match BEVAN GOSLING raced into the penalty box to pounce on Dean Gavin’s square pass to force the ball home for a 1-0 lead after only 4 minutes. Maclay proceeded to create a number of good chances and were perhaps unlucky when Dean Gavin’s goal was chalked off for offside on the half hour mark. Maclay largely dominated the first half but Dinamo really came back into the game after the break. Clearly Dinamo were much more used to the slope of the pitch and the near quagmire conditions in one goalmouth. Unusually Maclay tired as the match wore on - probably due to a mixture of the pitch conditions and Dinamo’s all action, energetic style.
Dinamo stormed back into the match in the 60th minute when they equalised despite Chris Young’s fine penalty save – they simply got to the rebound ahead of the Maclay defenders. Dinamo won the match with a goal from a corner in the 75th minute.
The result was a bit harsh on a Maclay team that played very well for an hour. If the Dinamo keeper hadn’t made a great diving save to thwart Adam Cowland’s rocket shot in the second half and quickly rushed off his line to stop Matt Ashby’s run on goal the points would have been shared or won by Maclay.
Dinamo are an impressive team and probably the best opposition Maclay have faced since returning to competitive Mens football. Maclay will be looking to get back on track in this Sunday’s away league match at Chesham Athletic.
