Maclay and Queens Head Share The Points
Sunday 1st February 2015
Chesham Sunday League Division 1
Maclay 1 (1) v Queens Head 1 (0)
Scorer: D Gavin (16 min)
Despite welcoming striker Dean Gavin and goalkeeper Chris Young back to the team after injury, Maclay’s recent poor run of results continued as points were shared in this entertaining Cow Roast league match. For the third match in a row Maclay took an early lead but were unable to win the match. This is a worrying trend that Maclay will be looking to remedy in the next match.
Maclay started this match brightly despite the very strong wind. Periods of good possession resulted in a number of corners and it was DEAN GAVIN who was on hand to open the scoring from within the six-yard box in the 16th minute. Maclay dominated the half but were unable to add to the 1-0 lead before half time.
Maclay played well after the break but the second goal just wouldn’t come as both post and crossbar were hit. Dean Gavin was unlucky not to score a second goal as Queens keeper made a fine save from his well hit shot. Queens Head started to come forward more with the wind behind them and scored a tremendous 35 yard goal to level the match in the 65th minute. Both teams continued to push for the winner and Ben Rochford was unlucky to see his shot come off the post after a good run down the right wing. Queens Head also hit the post late in the game so a draw was probably a fair result in the end. A win for Queens Head would have taken them above Maclay to the top of the league but the draw certainly kept their league title chase alive.
Despite the wind and the fact that it was a top of the table clash, the match was played in a competitive but very good, sporting spirit.
BEN O’CONNOR won Man of the Match for his very impressive display at the heart of the Maclay defence.
