Match Report - 24 Jan 2010, Maclay Football Club White beat Harpenden Vultures
Harpenden 0 Maclay 8
A morale boosting game for Maclay White in this cup challenge match.
Maclay started well with numerous early attempts stopped by resilient last ditch defending and a very sharp Harpenden keeper.
Continuous applied pressure from Maclay resulted in several well placed corners from Roachford and Prince. Determined efforts from Hopkins and Prince saw the ball (and £2.50) go wide of the post or over the bar. Bonny finally put anxious parents at the side out of their pain with a well struck goal. The second soon followed with an excellent and well weighted through ball from Bexson to Wilton, who one on one put the ball wide of the keeper.
Half time 2 - 0. Roberts the keeper had touched the ball 3 times. Rennison and Bonny offered to take stints in goal the second half.
The second half saw Harpenden tire. The defence with Critchfield, Rennison, Roachford and Mcentee looked impassible. Hopkins and Bexson dominated the midfield, winning almost every ball. The ball was distributed left and right to Keating and Roberts who put in some telling crosses. It didn't take long for Wilton who failed to give up on an apparent lost cause to strike the ball goal ward, a deflection sent it in. Five more goals followed. Two from Prince, following up shots and crosses. Wilton did the same with three more goals including a driving low shot into the right corner from the edge of the box. Bexson fought well and a well directed shot into the top corner saw the goalie pull of the save of the match. Good one and two touch football with discipline in position was the order of the day. Critchfield and Roachford stood out at the back. Keating had his best game of the season but was pipped at the post for man of the match with 5 goals from Wilton.
An excellent performance and team effort.
