Match Report

Match Report - 23 Jan 2011, Maclay Football Club Red lost to Maclay White

Maclay Red faced their toughest West Herts match of the season season against a very determined and resilient Maclay White team. Adam Cowland ghosted in from the left to open the scoring for Maclay Red after two minutes but the rest of the 1st half was very even as Maclay White battled hard to make sure their rivals had no time on the ball. Chris Heath added a 2nd goal for Maclay Red ten seconds before the break but the 2-0 scoreline rather flattered his team. Maclay Red were determined to improve in the 2nd half but unfortunately Maclay White's determination and sheer hard work ended up giving them a 3-2 win that effectively destroyed Maclay Red's title challenge. If Maclay White played like this every week they would be sitting near the top of the 1st Division. Too many chances were missed by Maclay Red and despite a superb final fifteen minutes the team that had scored 62 goals in 11 matches simply couldn't add to their half time tally. Robert Prunty's dislocated knee cap in the last minute summed up the wretchedness of the 2nd half. The return league match on 6th March will certainly be interesting, let's hope both Maclay teams have picked up some more points before then.
