Match Report - 08 Sep 2011, Maclay Football Club Red lost to Watford Youth Sports
Maclay Red continued their disappointing start to the season with a third pre season defeat in a week. Tonight's opponents were old rivals Watford Youth Sports and as always the match was played in a competitive but fair spirit. The teams were fairly evenly matched for the first ten minutes until WYS took the lead with a well struck shot. WYS stepped up a gear after this and added a second when Maclay poorly defended a corner. An injury to Calum Alexander did not help the Maclay cause although debutant Rob Hurley slotted in well at right back. Guest player, JAKE DE SOUZA brought Maclay back in to the game with an impressive long range free kick on the half hour mark and the first half ended with WYS 2-1 ahead. Maclay stepped up a gear in the second half and really took the game to WYS with Man of the Match Jake De Souza in particular causing the visitors no end of problems. As so often happens WYS scored against the run of play in 62nd minute but five minutes later JAMES MANNERS opened his account for the season with one of his trademark goals. Maclay pushed hard for the equaliser but WYS got the final goal when Maclay again failed to defend a corner adequately. James Rear subsequently pulled off a marvelous save to keep the score at 2-4.
