Match Report - 04 Dec 2011, Maclay Football Club White drew with Wendover Junior Colts

Wendover 2 – Maclay White 2

An excellent display from Maclay White on the first game of the year where there was a cold biting wind. The weather did not deter a large number of avid of supporters.
A bright start for Maclay with some excellent passing moves. Henry took on the Wendover defence and was unlucky not to score. The first goal came inside 10 minutes from a Josh corner, Pat striking the ball home from the edge of the 6 yard box. We continued to dominate and were unlucky to not to go two up as Okemdi put the ball in at the near post from a second corner. We were astonished to see the linesman flag to say the corner had curled out of play and back in. To the lads credit they got on with the game.
Wendover then began to play some excellent football and a sharp move saw a goal from the right wing, just before half time a well stuck ball hit the underside of the bar and went in.Half time 2 - 1 Wendover.
The second half was much the same as the first. Maclay playing the better football, but Wendover were very dangerous on the break. Maclay persisted and Pat earned a valuable equaliser with the goal of the season so far, striking the ball from 25 yards into the top right corner. The closest the Wendover keeper got to it was when he picked it out of the net.
A great team performance. Stan played the captains role alongside David, superb. Okemdi’s frightening pace, Henry’s refusal to give up combined with skilful footwork. Joey showed the opposition how to head the ball and played a couple of exceptional early balls.
Man of the match went to Ben who worked relentlessly, putting in cross after cross making surging runs up the wing and working tirelessly back to defend. Well done.

Great performance.
