Match Report - 08 Jan 2012, Maclay Football Club White beat Stokenchurch Juniors

Maclay White started 2012 in fine form with a 7 – 2 victory away to Stokenchurch. The game was played in a great spirit by both teams.

Having travelled our furthest for the season, eaten too much turkey, too many mince pies and been up too late the night before the parents looked tired and slow. Luckily our players seemed enthusiastic and fit.

Stokenchurch started the game brightly passing and keeping possession. Pat opened the scoring when he was struck by a thunderbolt on the leg but had the speed and awareness to chase the ball down from the halfway line to calmly put past the keeper. The second goal came quickly with some good one touch football between Hoppy and Josh, on to Chris who again put the ball away calmly.

Konur kept Maclay leading at half time standing up to the Stokenchuch striker one on one and blocking a firm goal bound shot.

We then dominated up to half time with the Konur, the back four and Matt breaking up the play and distributing the ball efficiently on a bumpy Stokenchurch pitch. We could have had five more but a combination of some good keeping a bobbly pitch and perhaps trying to hit the ball too hard left the half-time score at two nil.

Stokenchurch started the second half in determined fashion and scored with a superb strike from outside the box low into the corner. The pressure continued until Josh shot from 25 yards into the top left corner leaving the keeper stuck to the spot.

Stokenchuch came back with a second and the game wasn’t over. Pat then gave us some breathing space with a typical goal, he didn’t give up the chase and then comfortably put the ball past the keeper.

A fifth came from Josh, who having tried 25 yards thought why not 40; shooting from near the centre circle he chipped the keeper as the ball dipped just under the bar. Dom then came up trumps with an individual goal, going past two defenders and the keeper to pass the ball into the net. Pat finished it off showing determination and resilience to drive one across the face of the goal and score yet another hat-trick.

A good team performance, Ethan, Henry and Hoppy playing pivotal roles. The back four were superb. Man of the match went to Joey, managing to nullify their best player, coming out of eighty percent of the tackles with the ball and distributing well.

Great game, next week Taplow.
