Match Report - 11 Mar 2012, Maclay Football Club White beat Stokenchurch Juniors
Playing their first game on Astro Maclay White put up a good display. A few administrative issues to start with were quickly resolved. Thanks to Andy from Stokenchurch for agreeing a few compromises.
The first half saw good football from both sides. Stand in keeper George looked comfortable the entire game. The perfect surface allowed Maclay to play to the best of their ability. After several good opportunities a through ball from Henry put Josh clear on goal and from the edge of the box he struck the ball into the bottom left corner.
The half time of 1 – 0 seemed a fair result. The full sized pitch and match fitness began to tell. Hoppy struck early in the second half, volleying a loose ball from 25 yards into the left hand side of the goal giving the keeper no chance. Ben who had worked tirelessly in the first half cut inside on a surging run and again struck well from 25 yards into the goal. Josh Wilton took the fourth having previously hit the bar to tap in from 2 yards. Henry scored a deserved fifth, the Stokenchurch defence opened up like the Red Sea as they were unsure which way he was going to go. Again from 25 yards he curled the ball inside the right hand post. The final goal came from Chris, cutting in from the left to strike from the edge of the box past the keeper.
Maclay kept their shape, the defence were superb today and I cannot recall any errors. Hoppy sat in front of the defence, giving the mid-field the comfort blanket we need as they surge forward.
Man of the match went to Dom. He came on after 20 minutes and had the attitude that I want to see from all. He chased everything down, won most tackles he challenged for and put the Stokenchurch defence under real pressure.
An enjoyable game to watch on a great surface . A true team performance well done.
Our thanks to David and Ant for refereeing and running the line.
