Match Report - 09 Sep 2012, Maclay Football Club Red lost to Wendover Juniors
Maclay Red's first foray into Under 18 1st Division football was truly a game of two halves. Wendover swept into the lead in the 2nd minute - welcome to the big time boys! The team competed well for the rest of the half except for a two minute spell when Wendover added two more goals to their tally.
The second half saw more pressure from Wendover. This resulted in two more well taken goals which meant that Maclay were five goals down by the 70th minute. Rather than give up, Maclay gradually worked their way into the match. A trip on Rob Hurley in the 75th minute allowed CALLUM MILES to score the team's first goal of the season from the penalty spot. This gave the team more confidence going forward and late goals from CALLUM MILES and JAMES MANNERS earned the team a more respectable result and the satisfaction of winning the second half. It was hard to know if Wendover eased up after they took a five nil lead or whether Maclay truly fought back in style. Next week's match at Chalfont St Peter's may give us a better view on just how tough the SBYL 1st Division is going to be.
Maclay club captain SAM HAUCK deservedly won Man of the Match - narrowly pipping James Lagdon, Callum Miles and Chris Heath. Rob Hurley also turned in an impressive performance against his old club.
