Match Report - 09 Dec 2012, Maclay Football Club Red beat Stony Stratford Town
This was a bizarre match. Despite a poor performance Maclay managed to score five goals - the only problem was that two of them counted for the other team.
Maclay started the game well and Cowland and Miles were both unlucky not to open the scoring. Stony took the lead in the 39th minute when a cross from the left was put into his own net by Chris Heath. JACK WIGGS responded by equalising a minute later. Maclay took the game to Stony in the second half but went 1-2 down from a corner when Robin Niven unluckily headed the ball into his own net in the 65th minute. This prompted Maclay to really step up a gear with Gosling, Miles and Wiggs all combining well. A period of prolonged pressure was eventually rewarded in the 75th minute when ROBIN NIVEN came in from the right to equalise and make up for his earlier error.
Just when it looked like the game was going into extra time, Man of the Match JACK WIGGS popped up to score the winning goal in the last minute. They say good teams win when they don't play well and this was certainly the case in this match. Maclay always looked the better team but very nearly lost. All credit to the players for persevering and eventually getting their due reward.
