Match Report - 06 Jan 2013, Maclay Football Club Red beat Willen
Maclay played impressively on a very heavy, muddy pitch to comfortably beat a team who are a year older and sitting third in the Milton Keynes 1st Division. Every Maclay player delivered on the day and Willen made Maclay work hard from start to finish.
JAMES MANNERS opened the scoring in the 13th minute as he knocked in the rebound from Robin NIven's shot. Top scorer, MATT ASHBY added a second a minute later as he ran through on the keeper and placed the ball in the far corner.
Maclay should have extended their lead just before half time when Ashby was hauled down as he ran into the penalty box. The Willen defender was sent off but their keeper made a good save from Callum Miles' well struck penalty.
ROBIN NIVEN effectively sealed the game in the 50th minute when he skillfully brought down Adam Cowland's corner and hammered the ball through the crowded box into the Willen net.
Willen scored a stoppage time consolation goal from a free kick but it was not enough to stop Maclay progressing to the the last sixteen of the B&B U18 Youth Cup. Maclay captain, SAM HAUCK won Man of the Match for his strong, resolute display at the heart of the impressive Maclay defence.
