Match Report
Match Report - 08 Sep 2013, Maclay Football Club Red beat Penn & Tylers Green
This was a good solid start to the season for Maclay. Penn played well in the first half and Maclay's lack of pre season friendlies led to a certain rustiness. The introduction of Ben O'Connor and Saif Hijjawi coincided with a marked improvement in Maclay's play and the ever lively Robin Niven started to test Penn down the wing. Maclay had a couple of chances before the break but the 0-0 score at ht was a fair reflection of the half.
Maclay started the second half really well and SAIF HIJJAWI was rewarded with a goal on his first team debut. Penn tried hard to get back in the game but Maclay were always dangerous going forward and were duly rewarded with an ADAM COWLAND penalty goal just after Ben O'Connor had a great goal chalked off for an infringement. Last season's top scorer, MATT ASHBY added a fine goal near the end to seal the win. The whole Maclay squad played well but ADAM COWLAND won Man of the Match for his effervescent performance in the centre of midfield. Debutants Jack O'Connor, Saif Hijjawi and Cameron Elliot all impressed.
