Match Report

Match Report - 20 Oct 2013, Maclay Football Club Red beat Shenley

This was a great cup tie, finely balanced until Maclay took the lead 15minutes from the end through Man of the Match MATT ASHBY. At that point Maclay started to look dangerous every time they came forward and were duly rewarded with a second goal from MATT ASHBY five minutes from the end. Indeed if the Shenley keeper hadn’t raced out and blocked with his feet in the 95th minute, Ashby would have had a hat-trick.

Shenley were tough opposition but ultimately Maclay’s back four held firm for ninety minutes and helped secure the win. The return of captain Sam Hauck made a huge difference to the Maclay defence where Cameron Elliot and Jack O'Connor both also impressed. Nat Holzman and Robert Prunty both excelled down the wings in the second half.

Although this match was evenly poised, Saif Hijjawi hit the crossbar in the first half and Robert Prunty had a shot pushed onto the post in the second half so Maclay were always the team most likely to score.
