Match Report - 17 Nov 2013, Maclay Football Club Red beat Gerrards Cross & Fulmer Rangers
Maclay moved up to second place in the SBYL 1st Division after this impressive 9-1 win against a hard working Gerrards Cross team.
Gerrards Cross started the match very strongly and somewhat against the run of play, CALUM ALEXANDER opened the scoring after 8 minutes with a long range effort. Man of the Match ADAM COWLAND hit a superb goal from the edge of the box after 19 minutes. This was followed 5 minutes later by a fine lob from MATT ASHBY.
Gerrards Cross came back into the game on the half hour mark when they converted a penalty to get back into the game. Six minutes later CALLUM MILES lobbed the ball into the top corner to make it 4-1 to Maclay. SAIF HIJJAWI scored a superb goal 3 minutes before the break to make the score 5-1.
Gerrards Cross again started the half brightly but gave away a penalty that ADAM COWLAND cooly converted. ADAM COWLAND completed his hat trick after 63 minutes after a great piece of work and pass from Saif Hijjawi. Unfortunately Hijjawi was sent off a few minutes later for retailiating when fouled.
Maclay's ever reliable centre backs SAM HAUCK and CHRIS HEATH added really good goals in the 74th and 77th minute to complete the scoring.
All in all a really impressive team performance only blighted a little by Hijjawi's red card. Adam Cowland won MoM but Ben O'Connor was one of a number of players that shone on the day.
