Match Report - 16 Mar 2014, Maclay Football Club Red beat Gerrards Cross & Fulmer Rangers
Maclay won this thoriughly entertaining match in the end but it was a hard fought contest. Maclay scored against therun of lay when a defensive mix up enable Man of the Match Matt Ashby to win the ball and square it to JACK WIGGS for the opening goal. Gerrards Cross responded with two quick goals to take a deserved 2-1 lead. MATT ASHBY equalised before the break as he pounced on a superb through ball from Josh Hart.
Maclay started the second half in a determined mood and were rewarded with a great goal when Matt Ashby went on a superb run down the left and crossed the ball for ADAM COWLAND to score at close range. Gerrards Cross worked hard to get bakc in the game but Maclay were resolute in defence. Club captain SAM HAUCK made a rare foray up the pitch for a corner 5 minutes from the end and was rewarded when his well placed header hit the back of the net.
This was a tough but rewarding match for Maclay, the only downside being the knee/ankle ligament damage suffered by James Manners when he was brought down in the box just before half time.
