Maclay Crash Out Of Another Cup
Sunday 8th February 2015
Allan Moore Cup Group B
Misty Moon 3 (1) v Maclay 1 (1)
Scorer: D Gavin (16 min)
Despite a strong first half performance Maclay crashed out of another cup competition as the recent bad run of results continued. DEAN GAVIN opened the scoring in the 16th minute as he twisted and turned before hitting a low, hard shot past the keeper. At this stage Maclay were looking good for the win that would have taken them into the quarter final of this competition.
Maclay were dominating possession during the first half hour until a misplaced pass back from midfield enabled Misty Moon to equalise. This gave Misty Moon the confidence to start running at the Maclay defence.
One all at half time and things were even going into the second half. Maclay introduced substitutes Pat Hanlon and Joe Rochford at half time in an attempt to add the spark the team needed. Despite Hanlon and Rochford’s efforts Misty Moon grew stronger as the game progressed and they effectively killed the game off with two goals by the 66th minute. Maclay had too many players nursing injuries and coming back from lay offs to get back into the game.
It was a familiar story as Maclay once again took an early lead but were unable to hold it; a trend that will need to be halted soon or the Division 1 league title will end up somewhere else.
DAN RENNISON won Man of the Match for his sterling efforts as stand in goalkeeper in Chris Young’s absence. Jack O’Connor was runner up as he produced another very solid display at left back.
