Match Report - 11 Oct 2015, Maclay Football Club 2015 lost to Dinamo Chequers
MOUNTING INJURY CRISIS LEADS TO MORE WOES
Sunday 11th October 2015
Chesham Sunday League Premier Division at Westwood Park, Little Chalfont
Dinamo Chequers 3 (1) v Maclay 2 (2)
Scorers: Matt Pearson (2 min) & Bruce Guest (13 min)
Maclay’s ever mounting injury crisis cost the team three point as this was a match that could easily have been won.
A restructured Maclay team swept into an early lead as MATT PEARSON backed up his words about playing as a striker when he neatly knocked the team into the lead after 2 minutes. Maclay came forward at every opportunity and BRUCE GUEST converted well to score on his debut. Further chances were created in the first half hour but unfortunately the third goal the team needed didn’t materialise.
Typically, Maclay were punished in the 30th minute when David Hay was harshly judged to have fouled an opponent as he won the ball in the box. Stand in keeper Dan Rennison was unable to prevent Chequers getting back into the game from the penalty spot.
When half time came Maclay were rather unlucky not to be further ahead. Chequers were a team transformed after the break as they swarmed down the slope at the Maclay defence and were rewarded with another penalty in the 53rd minute. It was duly despatched to make the score 2-2.
The game was fairly even after that although Chequers looked more dangerous than Maclay. A defensive mix up enabled Chequers to take the lead 7 minutes from the end. Maclay piled forward at every opportunity during the closing stages of the game, looking for the point that the team felt they deserved. The best chance fell to Brendan Mulchrone in stoppage time but his well struck shot went over the cross bar. Another defeat and the third week in a row where Maclay have lost by the odd goal in a five goal thriller.
The three players making their Maclay debuts all acquitted themselves well but Dan Rennison easily won Man of the Match for another impressive display as stand in goalkeeper.
The club desperately needs all players who are fit and available to turn out at the moment or this season will continue to slide into mediocrity due to the ongoing injury crisis. This is not a time to hide.
