Match Report - 15 Nov 2015, Maclay Football Club 2015 lost to Pioneer
Sunday 15th November 2015
CSL Premier Division at Barn Meadow, Amersham
Pioneer 4 (1) v Maclay 1 (0)
Scorer: Peter Hay (85 min)
Although this was Maclay’s heaviest defeat of the season a depleted team played well in patches and could easily have had another couple of goals. That being said, Maclay goalkeeper PAT HANLON was outstanding and easily the Man of the Match after producing a string of great saves.
Maclay started the game playing a more defensive style than usual and everything went well for the first half hour or so as the returning Joey Rennison and Karl Bonney revelled in their central midfield roles alongside skipper Peter Hay. Brendan Mulchrone was taking the game to the opposition at every opportunity whilst Ian Ranger led the line in the absence of last season’s top scorer, Dean Gavin. Unfortunately Pioneer opened the scoring from nowhere in the 38th minute when a well struck shot from just inside the box evaded keeper Hanlon.
Maclay were annoyed to be a goal behind at the break especially as they’d had a couple of good penalty shouts but when they conceded a penalty in the 57th minute, it was very much an uphill task. Two quick goals from defensive mistakes in the 76th and 80th minute sealed the game for Pioneer and a late consolation goal in the 85th minute from PETER HAY was all the team had to show for a hard working display.
